Natural Opal
Writers have compared opal’s color to volcanoes, galaxies, and fireworks. The Romans gave it a name-opalus-that was synonymous with “precious stone”. Most opals are valued for their shifting colors in rainbow hues-a phenomenon known as “play-of-color”. In ancient Rome this gem symbolized love and hope.
